Your Library Card

Your library card may be used to borrow materials, use library computers, access databases, download and stream digital content, and more.
You can use your library card at any library in Allegheny County.

 

Get or Renew your Library Card

You can apply for a library card online or in person. In order to get your card, you will need to present photo identification, in addition to proof of address. Minors will need a parent/guardian to sign for them. Once obtained, you can use your library card at any public library throughout Allegheny County.

Periodically you will need to renew your library card. You will be asked to confirm your contact information, and may be required to present a photo identification and proof of address. If you have not used your library card for quite a while, you may need to reregister.

Loan Periods and Fines

Loan periods and fines vary by item type

Loan Periods

1. Books 3 weeks
2. Audio Books 3 weeks
3. Music CDs 3 weeks
4. Adult Magazines 3 weeks
5. Teen Magazines 1 week
6. Juvenile Magazines 1 week/3 weeks
7. Puppets 1 week
8. Videos/DVD 1 week
9. New Fiction Books 1 week

Late Fees &Fines

Fees for overdue items, regardless of material type are 0.25 per day. 

 Overdue fines will not be charged on days when the library is closed.

Renewals

1. Any item may be renewed an unlimited number of times unless there is an outstanding request for the title.
2. Materials may be renewed in person at any ACLA member library, by telephone, or online.

Overdue Accounts

1. A patron is considered delinquent if his/her fines exceed $5.00.
2. Borrowing privileges will be suspended at all ACLA member libraries until the total fines are brought below $5.00.

Paying Fines

Pay your fines with cash, check or credit card at the front desk of the Library.

Returning Materials

Library materials may be returned at any Library in Allegheny County.
